Teachers aren't just there to teach knowledge, but to help teach this knowledge while developing skills in students such as communication and critical thinking. He emphasizes the need for supporting teacher development and collaboration.

I am going into Elementary Education, so this class is perfect for me. Going into teaching means that I will have to become an expert in technology (or at least know enough of the basics that my third graders won't have to help me). This class will not only help me better my current skills but also give me more tools I can use in my future classroom.     I learned a lot of skills from the website design assignment. I made a website during my freshman year of high school, but it was primarily pre-made and I just used it to upload photos for my photography class. This assignment was a lot more in depth and required me to learn a lot of new skills such as how to embed videos and images, and how to change the format to fit my vision. I also had to take into consideration the principles of design when making my website. Most of the principles were easy to incorporate, such as repetition and alignment. The website themes were preformatted to use the same fonts and have alignment that made sense. Contrast was a little harder. The banner I used for the headers and background was a little harder to have contrast on since there were a lot of lighter colors.   I had a great time touring the Tech Sandbox last week. I learned about a lot of resources that I didn’t know were available to me. We got to see the 3D printer and pens, the coding robots, the touch screens, coding Legos, and smart bands that can sense your stress levels. It was really cool seeing all of the different forms of technology and imagining how they can be implemented in classrooms. It was also fun to just play around with the tech and explore it. I used coding robots such as Kibo in my preschool classes I taught, and the kids really loved them. I think coding robots are a great way to teach a wide variety of skills including directions, motor skills, and coding basics and having the kids be able to see their work pay off. I would love to implement them in my future classes, maybe a more challenging robot with some more advanced coding aspects for older grades. 3D printers are also really useful for students and teachers alike.
